DPS Shakespeare Festival is a Highlight of DMHS's Year

Normally, a few thousand school children marching through the streets might be a cause for concern. But in Denver, Colorado, it marks one of the most exciting events in the school year.

Every April, Downtown Denver is home to the yearly Denver Public Schools Shakespeare Festival, where students of all ages from schools across Denver come together to march in a costumed parade and perform scenes and plays by Shakespeare. The event lasts all day, with scenes and plays performed simultaneously on many stages. The Festival is filled with children, teachers, community members, and parents, as students show off their acting chops.

OPINION - DMHS Needs a Floor Hockey Team, by Raiden McClure

Please enjoy this opinion article from a student in DMHS's "Introduction to Journalism" class.

Middle school should have co-ed floor hockey because it's for everybody and everybody can play instead of playing basketball. Some people don't like basketball and not as many people participate when we play it. Sports are good for kids and we should be able to have sports for everybody in the school.

OPINION - Don't Go to the Circus, by Jordan Wortham

Please enjoy this opinion article from DMHS's "Introduction to Journalism" class!

Tigers, Elephants, bears and other circus animals do not leap through holes, balance on their heads, or ride bikes because they want to. They have to be taught and teaching wild animals can be difficult. They do these and other tough techniques out of fear of what will happen if they don't. All around the world, circuses do not care about their animals. They care about entertaining their audience and what they can do with their animals. They torture their animals if they don’t do things right after a certain amount of times.

The Minimum Wage, by James Cole

Please enjoy this article from DMHS's "Introduction to Journalism" class.

Considering the economic state of the United States with inflation, house costs, food costs, and many other factors, a minimum wage job will not get you far. An average minimum wage worker will make about $28,392 a year. After factoring in the average cost of rent, utilities, water, food and other necessities, you will come out at the end of the year with about $1900 that hasn't gone into only bills. This isn’t factoring in car payments, repairs, or other things that can come up.

OPINION - Marvel Phase 4 Is Not As Bad As the Haters Say. In Fact, It's Good. By Siri Sherrod

Please enjoy this opinion article from DMHS's "Introduction to Journalism" class.

Many Marvel fans believe that Phase 4 is the worst Marvel phase. I disagree. I think Phase 4 is better at representing minorities. Phase 4 has more LGBTQ+ and racially diverse characters than the other phases had.

Phase 1 consisted of all white male leads plus a team-up movie. Same thing for Phase 2. Phase 3 had Black Panther which was very progressive and successful and Captain Marvel which had a white female lead but was not received well.

OPINION - Bugs Aren't Bad. By Will Matyjevich

Please enjoy this opinion article from DMHS's "Introduction to Journalism" class!

Many people fear insects, but they never seem to realize how fascinating bugs can be. One example would be cockroaches, cockroaches are seen as invasive, disgusting creatures that crawl around and make weird clicking noises, but roaches in general can be really cool, because of how they eat waste and make it into organic material. Roaches are some of the reasons why our world isn't flooded with garbage.

It can buy you happiness because if you have all the money you need you can spend time with people and family which can make you happy. Or you can buy things that bring you joy like a Bugatti or a mansion or things for family. Seeing them get them can bring you a lot of happiness.

OPINION - Should Inmates on Death Row Have More Rights? By Kaitlyn Tran

Please enjoy this opinion article from DMHS's "Introduction to Journalism" Class!

Humans who kill other humans are ultimately evil. How could someone take another life and not feel any remorse? However, on Death Row, where the world’s most deadly people are sent, is it okay for the government to take those lives without any remorse at all? There are a lot of mixed opinions whether it's right or wrong to kill other people, no matter the crimes they’ve committed.

Death Row is a sentence where inmates who have committed federal crimes against the state or have committed violent murders are sent to await execution. While these people are probably horrible and have done terrible things, is it right to kill them off?
