Abraham Lincoln was born in February 16,1809 in Hodgenville KY. Abraham was a self-taught lawyer, legislator and a person who felt strongly against slavery. In the year of 1860, Lincoln was elected to be the 16th president of the United States. Lincoln had great accomplishments such as the abolishment of slavery, becoming the 16th president and becoming re-elected and being known as one of the greatest presidents in US history.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to be the 16th president of the United States. Lincoln was part of the Republican party. He was considered a great president during the Civil War. He is known for his speech called the Gettysburg Address. This speech talked about how humans are all equal.

Lincoln ended slavery in the United States on December 18th¨ 1865. He is known for the Emancipation Proclamation. This was a speech that ordered all slaves to be set free. He was able to free slaves in 10 states and this took place during the Civil War.  Twenty thousand slaves were freed immediately and four million more slaves were freed once the thirteenth amendment was signed.

Lincoln was re-elected for a second term. However, it was short-lived because he was assassinated. He and his wife were going to go see a theater production and during the performance, he was shot by a Confederate sympathizer from Maryland. The man who shot Lincoln was none other than John Wilkes Booth, a famous actor. After being shot, Lincoln was moved next door to the theater and was in a coma for 9 hours before sadly passing the next morning.

Lincoln's leadership, powerful speeches, and ending slavery left an amazing impact on the United States of American. Today, people can see some of his legacy by walking around the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, which was built in honor of this amazing president and his great accomplishments.
