In the TV shows "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "Legends of Korra," bending is one of the main activities. It is a mix of elements and martial arts whereby people with special powers, called Benders, manipulate one of the four elements. Have you ever wondered which Bending is better? Or what nation might you belong in? We have a lot of Avatar fans at DMHS who love to debate this! Four DMHS students are ready to convince you below that their favorite form of bending is the most powerful!
Why Air Bending is best (James Jaramillo, 7th Grade)
Air Bending is better because you can fly and make a sphere of air that you can ride on. Another reason why Air Bending is better is they have animals like flying bison and flying lemurs which they ride on or have as pets. In addition, Air Bending is better because they have cool temples. A fifth reason why Airbending is better is because they use wind and that’s awesome!
Why Fire Bending is best (Katie Aron, 7th Grade)
First, Firebenders get their energy from the sun; therefore, they’re more powerful during the day when you’re most likely to bend. (Nobody bends at night, sorry Water Benders). Second, high-ranked Firebenders can Lightning Bend and use Laser, Absorption, and Combustion. If you doubt how powerful we are, just look back at the hundred-year war: one nation against three others. The Fire Nation won. It would have lasted longer if the Avatar hadn't come along, and nobody can compete with the Avatar, but the Fire Nation is still powerful.
Why Earth Bending is best (Tyler Lewis, 8th Grade)
Earth Bending is better than the other bending for many reasons. One, high-ranked Earth Benders can Metal and Lava Bend. Two, the Earth is all around us, so that gives Earth Benders an advantage on many types of terrain. Three, believe it or not, if an Earth Bender is strong enough they can Blood Bend because humans have microscopic metal in their body that Earth Benders can get ahold of and bend. Blood Bending is powerful and scary, and makes Earth Benders powerful enemies you don't want to cross.
Why Water Bending is best (James Cole, 7th Grade)
Now I feel like an Avatar saying this, but every type of bending has pros and cons. Out of the four elements, I think Water Bending is the best because you are able to Ice Bend, which can get you out of tough situations. For instance, you can break chains and trap people in ice, and you can get away from what might have been a difficult fight by just freezing the opponent in an ice cube. Strong Water Benders can also Blood Bend.
Now that you have read about all four elements, what Bending jumps out at you most? Is it the hot and fiery Fire Nation? Or the Earth Nation that resisted the Fire Nation for over a century? You may also prefer the Air Temples, where there is relaxation and peace. And last but not least, the elegant and destructive Water and Ice Bending!
